In this first episode, I visit the Japanese Federal Meat Academy (FMA) in Gunma Prefecture—Japan’s leading institution for meat education since 1973. More than just a school, FMA is a training ground for future meat industry leaders, offering hands-on experience in everything from butchery and cooking to marketing and distribution.
I had the privilege of speaking with Mr. Obara, FMA’s principal, about their unique programs, including the flagship 12-month course where students live and train together in a fully immersive experience. This program fosters teamwork and personal growth, aligning with the academy’s philosophy of developing “people with a rich heart.” At FMA, discipline, tradition, and innovation come together to shape the future of Japan’s meat industry. Join me as I dive into the heart of Wagyu excellence!
Special thanks to Obara-san, Masato Kato-san, Shiho Umebayashi, and the entire FMA team for their warm hospitality and for sharing their incredible culture with me.
